How To Keep Your Followers, Fans & ‘Likes’ Engaged

Here are some basic guidelines of what you should be posting on your Facebook or Twitter pages:

  • Don’t overdo it!
  • Exclusive Sneak Peaks
  • Deals & Coupons
  • Seasonal Tips (Be cautious here! Too many ‘tips’ will overload your audience)

Businesses who have successfully attracted fans, likes and followers to their Facebook or Twitter page have just started in their journey in social media marketing. The real task is keeping those prospects interested and engaged.

Social media users expect to see deals, coupons, and exclusive sneak-peaks if you are to remain a priority on their online rolodex. They are also looking for businesses who help solve their problems and get their feedback on products and services.

What they aren’t looking for is equally important. The top two reasons new-media users said they stopped following brands online, tied at 58%, were brands sending out too many messages or acting irresponsibly. A majority of respondents also complained about content being irrelevant.

These findings are similar to those in a DDB Worldwide and Opinionway Research study of Facebook brand fans worldwide.

Top Reasons For Unsubscribing:

  1. Lack of interest
  2. Information being published too frequently
  3. Uninteresting or irrelevant information.

While businesses who publish too little can be a problem for some users—and certainly won’t help engagement—it will not typically get fans to actively unsubscribe from a page. If content is improved, fans and followers will still be there to see it. But too much content or the wrong kind of content will drive prospects away, which , the last thing brand marketers will hope for after making the effort to attract them in the first place.
